Pair: Private F. A. Russell, Essex Regiment, attached Royal Norfolk Regiment, who was killed in action in Korea on 24 July 1952 during an assault on his sections position on Point 118

Frank Arthur Russell was born in Rockford, Essex on 17 May 1928. During the Korean War, he served as a Private in the Essex Regiment, attached to the Royal Norfolk Regiment, and was killed in action on 24 July 1952. On this date, two sections of the Norfolk’s were holding a position on Point 118, when attacked by a force of 50 enemy soldiers. Before the Norfolk’s could react, the enemy, who attacked in two forces, were upon the British position. During a fighting retreat down the hill, the survivors were split up and the commander killed. Russell is buried in the United Nations Memorial Cemetery, Pusan, Korea.
