Henry William Streeter was born in Plymouth on 16 June 1908, and joined the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class on 8 November 1923. Advanced to Able Seaman on 23 May 1928, in June of that year he suffered an injury to his right hand in an electric mixer which resulted in him losing two of his fingers, for which he was awarded a hurt certificate on 17 June 1928. On 26 November of that year he was allowed to transfer branch from Seaman to Supply Assistant ‘as a special case’. He was advanced Supply Petty Officer on 16 January 1939, and joined H.M.S. Adventure on 17 September 1940, remaining in Adventure throughout the Second World War. He was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 27 May 1941, and was advanced Stores Chief Petty Officer on 31 October 1945. He was invalided out of the service ‘physically unfit’ on 24 August 1948.
