Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., V.R., narrow suspension (S. Sherred, Ldg: Sto: H.M.S. Research.) impressed naming, light pitting, very fine £70-£90

Samuel Sherred was born in Lymington, Hampshire, on 27 October 1847, and joined the Royal Navy as a Stoker 2nd Class on 2 October 1872. He was advanced Stoker on 1 November 1873, and Acting Leading Stoker on 29 August 1882, and served in H.M.S. Euphrates during the Egypt Campaign (entitled to Medal and Khedive’s Star). He was promoted Leading Stoker on 12 October 1886, and having joined the paddle survey vessel H.M.S. Research on 22 March 1890 was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 7 June 1890. He was finally shore pensioned on 31 March 1893.
