Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., V.R., narrow suspension (J. W. S. Light, Sh. Cook, H.M.S. Terror) impressed naming, second ‘r’ of ship’s name double struck, polished, nearly very fine, the reverse better £70-£90

James William Samuel Light was born in Portsmouth on 31 December 1865, and joined the Royal Navy as a Domestic 3rd Class on 29 March 1884. He was advanced Ship’s Cook on 9 September 1895, and joined H.M.S. Terror on 1 October 1896, being awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal 9 January 1897. He was advanced Chief Cook on 29 August 1900, and was discharged to pension on 6 January 1906. He re-joined on 2 August 1914, and served during the Great War as a Chief Ship’s Cook, being finally demobilised on 22 April 1919.
