M.I.D. London Gazette 14 July 1959:
‘In recognition of gallant and distinguished services in Cyprus for the period 1 January to 30 June 1959.’
Jock William Frater joined the Army in 1942 and spent the final three years of the Second World War on Home service. Staying in the Royal Military Police following the cessation of hostilities, he was advanced Sergeant on 11 December 1952, Staff Sergeant in 1954, and Warrant Officer Class II in 1956. He was posted as Permanent Staff Instructor to 161 Independent Infantry Brigade Group Provost Unit, and then to Tripoli Detachment, Royal Military Police. He served in Cyprus in 1959, and was Mentioned in Despatches.
The following year Frater transferred to No. 6 Guard Dog Unit, and held various other appointments in the Royal Military Police prior to his retirement in 1964 with the rank of Warrant Officer Class I.
