John Blackburn was born in Ruskington, Lincoln, on 15 January 1786. He enlisted in 1811 and served in Captain D. Sinclair's company at Waterloo, where he was wounded by a gun shot wound in the left side. Shown on the invalided soldiers roll and his discharge papers confirm his wound during the battle (copies not included with medal).
