M.I.D. London Gazette 3 February 1920:
‘For valuable and distinguished services rendered in connection with the operations in North Russia during the period 25 March to 26 September 1919.’

Richard Heyburn was born in Maidstone, Kent, in 1888, and attested for the Royal Berkshire Regiment. Posted to the 2nd Battalion, he served with them in India prior to the Great War, and then with the Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 6 November 1914. He received a gunshot wound to the left hand and was treated at No. 2 General Hospital, before proceeding to North Russia for service during the Russian Intervention, for which he was Mentioned in Despatches. Returning to India post-War, he saw further service during the Waziristan campaign 1921-24.
