Frank Phelps attested for the Worcestershire Regiment, and served with them during the Great War in the Balkan theatre of War from 29 November 1915. He subsequently served with the 4th Battalion on the Western Front, and was awarded the Military Medal, presumably for gallantry during the Battle of the Somme.
