Waterloo 1815 (Edward Coyle, 23rd Reg. Light Dragoons.) fitted with original steel clip and contemporary steel ring, edge bruising and contact marks with minor loss to a few letters, good fine £1,800-£2,200

Edward Coyle was born at Dewlick, County Meath, and enlisted into the 23rd Light Dragoons at Canterbury, Kent, on 30 May 1810, for unlimited service, aged 27, a servant by trade. He served 7 years 270 days, 2 years 100 days in the rank of Corporal, and was discharged on 16 November 1817, in consequence of the ‘disbandment of the Regiment and wounds of the left leg at Waterloo.’ His conduct was described as having been ‘extremely good having served in Flanders, particularly in the Battle of Waterloo where he received several wounds.’ On 19 June he was transported to hospital at Brussels along with 43 other wounded soldiers from the regiment (A Soldiers Story refers). He was admitted to an out-pension at the Royal Hospital, Chelsea, on 24 February 1818, at the rate of 6d per diem.

Sold with copied discharge papers and other research.
