Jamit Singh joined the Bengal Infantry on 6 July 1866, and was promoted Jemadar on 28 June 1884; Subadar on 17 August 1886; and Subadar-Major on 1 April 1890. He was awarded the Order of British India 2nd Class on 13 August 1897, for services with the Tochi Field Force 1897.
