Thomas Bernard Bourke joined the Royal Air Force in September 1939 and was commissioned from the ranks to Pilot Officer, General Duties Branch (Air Gunners and Air Wireless Operators), Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve on 10 February 1944. He was promoted Flying Officer on 10 August 1944 and Flight Lieutenant from 15 August 1947. He transferred to the Fighter Control Branch, Royal Air Force on 5 March 1952, and retired on 22 September 1967.
