King’s Hospital, Oxmantown, an oval award medal by T. Halliday, frontal elevation of a building, rev. named (At An Examination held at the King’s Hospital Dublin in June 1881, This Medal was awarded to John J.M. Dowzer, For superior answering in Scripture), 58 x 47mm (D & W 268/488; Went, Heritage 131; cf. Baldwin FPL 1996, 191). Pierced for suspension, otherwise extremely fine and attractively toned, very rare £200-£300

One of the oldest boarding schools in Ireland, the King’s Hospital was founded as the Hospital and Free School of King Charles II and was commonly known as the Blue School. In 1783 the hospital moved to the building in Blackhall place presently occupied by the Incorporated Law Society
