Capt. A. Caruana was a merchant nave captain and he founded his business in Valetta selling wine, spirit and tobacco in 1894 Guido Caruana was the son of the founder and managed the business through the war years. Charles Grech was founded in 1881 as a wine and tobacco merchant and as of 1996 it was still conducting business from the same address as on the IOU, although Kingsway is now called Republic Street. Monico bar was located in Valetta, but the exact whereabouts have not been traced. The Mid Med Bank canteen chits were used in the Information technology Services Dept. and were pre-purchased. The bank was taken over by H.S.B.C. in about 1998 and the chits were no longer used
