Bow Street, Charles James, Halfpence, 1796 (2), lion couchant, revs. tiger, spence edges, second on a wide flan with the word engraver clearly visible in the exergue, 12.72g/7h, 12.55g/7h (both DH 344; Hawkins p.32) [2]. First about extremely fine and patinated, second extremely fine, reverse with much original colour (£100-150)

Second only illustrated. Charles James, diesinker and engraver, in the late 1780s and early 1790s at Cart’s yard, Church street, Birmingham, and from 1793 at 6 Martlett court, Bow street (Hawkins p.24), was responsible for the design of many 18th century tokens. The
obv. is from the same die as his penny (Spence Part I, 1320)
