A Great War M.M. group of four awarded to Acting Lance-Corporal R. Bayley, 1st Wiltshire Regiment, late Manchester Regiment

Military Medal, G.V.R. (205696 Pte.-L.Cpl. R. Bayley, 1/Wilts. R.); 1914-15 Star (2075 Pte., Manch. R.); British War and Victory Medals (2075 Pte., Manch. R.) nearly extremely fine (4) £200-250

M.M. London Gazette 17 June 1919.

Whilst no theatre of war is stated for this award in the London Gazette, a letter from the Regimental Headquarters states: ‘... it could have been given for an action in Russia. A detachment of 200 Wiltshire Regulars were sent to Russia in May 1919 to form a composite “Hampshire Battalion” in a Force to protect British interests in Archangel and Murmansk. Several Wiltshiremen won awards in the fighting that took place there.’
