A Second World War M.B.E. group of five to Major I. F. Jones, Royal Artillery, late Intelligence Corps

The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, M.B.E. (Military) Member’s 2nd type breast badge, in Royal Mint case of issue; 1939-45 Star; France and Germany Star; Defence and War Medals, all unnamed as issued, nearly extremely fine (5) £100-140

Sold with a framed and glazed bestowal document for the M.B.E. and a M.O.D. letter detailing some of the recipient’s appointments and services.

Ian Fordyce Jones entered the British Army as a Gunner in the Royal Artillery on 20 October 1939 and was posted to the 64th Field Regiment. Posted to an Officer Cadet Training Regiment in March 1940, he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Intelligence Corps on 31 August 1940. Transferred to the Royal Artillery in July 1941, he was appointed Acting Captain on 13 June 1942. On 8 September 1942 he was appointed Senior Officer 2 Corps District and Counter Battery Officer 1 Corps on 3. March 1943. He served overseas between June 1944 and April 1945. He was posted to 208 Military Government Depot No.2 Chief Advisors Pool in June 1945 and 114 Military Government Depot in November 1945. He was awarded the M.B.E. (
London Gazette 30 January 1945) as a Captain (temporary Major) in the Royal Artillery. Released from the Regular Army in 1946, he joined 103 Staff Royal Artillery Territorial Army in 1952 and was granted a T.A. commission with the rank of Captain in the Royal Artillery. He was released to the Territorial Reserve of Officers in 1956 and retired with the honorary rank of Major in 1966.
