Pair: Second Lieutenant V. J. F. Wilson, Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, killed in action near Le Cateau on 17 October 1918

Tyrone, Ireland’, nearly extremely fine (3) £300-350

Second Lieutenant Victor John Frackelton Wilson was born on 10 April 1899 and educated at Foyle College, Londonderry. He enlisted into the 7th Battalion, Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers on 11 May 1917, from Dublin University O.T.C., before being commissioned into the 3rd battalion, with the rank of Second Lieutenant on 30 April 1918. Second Lieutenant Wilson was killed in action at Le Cateau on 17 October 1918, whilst attached to the 6th Battalion, Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. He is buried at Highland Cemetery, Le Cateau, France.

Sold with comprehensive research, including relevant copies of the War Diary, which includes a detailed five page report on the operations of 17/18 October 1918, in which the battalion made an attack south of Le Cateau at 05:20 hours in thick mist, suffering the loss of four officers and 14 other ranks.
