Three: Second Lieutenant C. R. Fausset, Royal Irish Regiment, killed in action at St Julien on 3 May 1915

Charles Reginald Fausset was born in Waterford, Ireland on 9 January 1880, and educated at Rathmines School, where he was Captain of the school 1897-98, and Trinity College, Dublin. A schoolmaster by profession, he volunteered for active service on the outbreak of the Great War , receiving a commision into the 3rd Battalion, Royal Irish Regiment in October 1914. He was killed in action at St Julien on 3 May 1915, whilst attached to the 1/2nd Battalion and his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial. His entry in the C.W.G.C. register additionally states ‘Captained T.C.D. Cricket XI. Mile and quarter mile champion of Ireland.’ Sold with 16 copied pages from his National Archives correspondence file.
