Pair: Private Katoamba, 1st King’s African Rifles

Ashanti 1900, 1 clasp, Kumassi (46 Pte., 1st K.A.R.C.), high relief bust; Africa General Service 1902-56, 1 clasp, Somaliland 1902-04 (46 Pte., 1st K. African R.), name spelt ‘Katwamba’ on second, some edge bruising and contact marks, good fine (2) £300-350

Private Katoamba was born at Mlanje, Nyasaland and was of the Yao Tribe. He enlisted at Zomba in February 1900 and served in the Ashanti expedition, being present at Dunassi and Kumaso, and then in the Somaliland campaign. During the Great War he served in the campaign in German East Africa until discharged as medically unfit in August 1916. Sold with copied service papers.
