Five: Sergeant G. Wilkinson, Durham Light Infantry

Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 2 clasps, Tugela Heights, Relief of Ladysmith (5879 Cpl. G. Wilkinson, Durham Lt. Infy.); King’s South Africa 1901-02, 1 clasp, South Africa 1902 (5879 Corpl., Durham L.I.); 1914-15 Star (11382 Sjt., Durh. L.I.); British War and Victory Medals (3-11382 Sjt., Durh. L.I.) very fine and better (5) £160-200

G. Wilkinson served with the 1st Battalion D.L.I. during the Boer War. The scarce single clasp K.S.A., although not confirmed, implies that he was absent from South Africa for a time. At a later date he became a Reservist and a Serjeant in the 3rd Battalion. He was then transferred to the 2nd Battalion when the General Mobilisation for the Great War took place. He landed in France on 20 July 1915. Sold with a reproduced group photograph taken in Dublin 1897, showing the recipient as a Lance-Corporal and wearing a Good Conduct Badge.
