Hammer Price:

18th Hussars, a scarce 1857 pattern officer’s brown fur busby, the 19.5cm body fitted with a gold lace trimmed green cloth bag, plain gold cord boss and triple gold cord sewn in ‘cap lines’, simple gilt side ornaments support a gilt corded chin chain, this with detached red moroccan leather lining, internal sweat band and crimson silk lining, gilt plume holder supports a plume of green osprey over green cut feather base, the body with considerable wear and ‘softening’, the green bag and plume faded, the gold boss and cap lines dull, sweat band part detached. £800-1000

The newly raised 18th Hussars of 1861 changed the colour of the bag and plume circa 1877-83.
