Visit to Ireland 1903 (D.I. J. H. W. L. Dale, R.I.C.) complete with shamrock top suspension, both medal and top suspension have been silvered, good very fine £80-100

Jonathan Henry Wellington Loftus Dale was born c.1869 in Co. Fermanagh and entered the R.I.C. as a Cadet in 1892. Serving in a variety of places, he attained the rank of 1st District Inspector in 1906. His service record notes that whilst based in Cork he was rewarded ‘for courage, coolness and tact in dealing with a mob in the Ballingery (?) disturbances, 18.11.1907. In December 1914 he was transferred to Castlerea in Co. Roscommon where he was to remain until 1922. Whilst there he was commended for the ‘Detirmination and ability in coping with a state of lawlessness in Co. Roscommon, 11.6.18’. He was discharged with a pension in 1922 on the disbandment of the Royal Irish Constabulary. Sold with copied service details.
