Distinguished Service Order, G.V.R., silver-gilt and enamel, complete with top bar, in Garrard, London case of issue, slight enamel damage to reverse wreath, good very fine, a rare Honorary award to a Russian £1200-1500

With the bestowal document to Captain Rotmistr Kazbulad Gutsunaiev, 16th Iverskori Dragoon Regiment, to be an Honorary Companion of the Distinguished Service Order, dated 3 June 1916 (Document torn).

Abbott & Tamplin in
British Gallantry Awards record that of the honorary appoitments traced, only one D.S.O. award was made to a Russsian national. However, they state that ‘it seems likely that other [honorary] awards were made which were not gazetted.’

This award is the unique one referred to in British Gallantry Awards, announced in War Office List no.11, dated 6 June 1917 but with effective date of 3 June 1916. Caucasian Cavalry Division is shown after his regiment
