Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 2 clasps, Tugela Heights, Relief of Ladysmith (3110 Cpl. H. Titmus, Durham Lt. Infy.) slight scratch to obverse left field, good very fine £80-100

Henry Orme was born in Birmingham in 1870. A tin-plate worker by trade, he enlisted into the Durham Light Infantry at Birmingham on 16 February 1888. He joined the 1st Battalion but on 17 July 1889 he deserted only to rejoin on 17 October 1889, an act for which he received an period of imprisonment. He returned to duty with the 2nd Battalion in December 1889. He served with the regiment in India, 1889-97. In 1892 for unknown reasons he changed his surname to Titmus. Attaining the rank of Lance-Sergeant in October 1896, he transferred to the Reserve on 9 November 1897. With the outbreak of the Boer War he was recalled for Army Service on 9 October 1899 and was finally discharged on 31 May 1902. Sold with copied service papers and a reproduced photograph.
