South Africa 1877-79, 1 clasp, 1877-8 (647 Pte. J. Dodiread, 1/24th Foot) minor edge bruise, otherwise nearly extremely fine £400-500

William Dodiread (medal roll gives initial as J.) was born at Warminster, Wiltshire. He enlisted at Monmouth on 7 January 1876, aged 20 years, his trade at the time being given as a labourer. He died of disease on 19 April 1878, and his name is commemorated on a memorial at St Pauls’ Churchyard, Komgha, Eastern Cape.
