M.M. London Gazette 24 January 1919. ‘Private Holt was one of the crew of a tank which received a direct hit and had to be evacuated. The tank commander was getting out of the tank when he was attacked by several of the enemy. Pte. Holt opened fire on them with a Hotchkiss gun firing from the shoulder at a range of about five yards and killed one of the enemy who was about to bayonet the tank commander. He then continued to fire until the crew got safely away. His pluck and presence of mind undoubtedly saved the tank commander’s life.’
