Hector James Thornton was a planter and served in the Malay States Volunteer Rifles, 1910-14, before enlisting in January 1915 as a Private in the 10th Battalion Royal Fusiliers. In November the same year he was discharged to be appointed to a temporary commission in the 3rd Battalion Suffolk Regiment. 2nd Lieutenant Thornton was invalided to England in January 1917 suffering from bronchitis and again in the following year, with rheumatism. Sold with copied service papers
