George Donald Currie was born in Manitoba, Canada in December 1895 and was educated at King’s College, Auckland, New Zealand and privately in Switzerland. With the onset of the Great War he was commissioned into the 1st Battalion East Surrey Regiment. He was wounded under the right eye on 22 February 1916 whilst serving with the 99th T.M. Battery. Returning to active service in March with the 51/2 T.M. Battery, he was buried by an explosion on 4 May 1916 and was invalided to England in June suffering from shell-shock. He was placed on Retired Pay in April 1917. Sold with 21 sheets of copied service papers.
