Herbert Routley Moss Williams was born on 24 May 1874 in Oxford. He entered the Royal Navy as Midshipman in 1889 and gained the rank of Lieutenant in 1895 and Commander in 1907. Prior to the Great War he had served as Navigating Officer aboard the battlecruisers H.M. Ships New Zealand and Invincible; during the War he was based at Portsmouth Dockyard. He retired in 1922 with the rank of Captain. Sold with copied service paper.
