Charles Bernard Hyde was born in Madras and was attested for the R.H.A. in 1892 as a Boy aged 14 years. Transferring later the same year to the Royal Artillery, he served with them on the Punjab Frontier. In 1903 he joined the Indian Army Unattached List as a Store Sergeant. With the Ordnance Department he was promoted Sub-Conductor in 1908, Conductor in 1915, Assistant Commissary (Lieutenant) in 1919, Deputy Commissary (Captain) in1923, Commissary (Major) in 1925, attaining the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1931. Hyde retired in 1931. For his services during the Great War he was twice mentioned in despatches (London Gazette 12 March 1918 & 27 August 1918). Sold with copied service papers.
