George Walter Francis was born in Wapping, London. A tasker by trade, he entered the 4th Dragoon Guards in 1895. He served with the regiment in India, February 1897 - January 1904, after which he was transferred to the Army Reserve. Francis was mobilised in August 1914 and served overseas 16 August 1914 - 24 February 1918 and was wounded on 11 February 1916. He was demobilised in January 1919. Sold with copied service papers.
