James Hogan was born in Co. Tipperary and was attested for the 64th Regiment on 1 July 1852, aged 19 years. He served with his regiment in Persia and again during the Indian Mutiny. A member of the 1st relief force for Lucknow, he was wounded in the right thigh at Lucknow in November 1857. He was discharged in 1861 as a consequence of the wound which never fully healed. Sold with copied service papers.
