John Harris was born on 21 December 1856 at Neath, Glamorgan. He enlisted into the Royal Marines in 1875, and served in Egypt with the R.M. Battalion and Camel Corps, and was present at Abu Klea. He was invalided in November 1885. 4 officers and 89 other ranks of the Royal Marines were present at Abu Klea. Sold with some service details.
