George Wing was born in Henley and joined the Army in 1854 and was discharged in 1864. He served with the 60th Rifles in the Indian Mutiny, being present at the action of Hindun 30-31 May, battle of Badli-ky-Serai, taking of heights before Delhi 8 June and subsequent seige operations before the capture of the city 14-20 September 1857, served in Rohilcund 1858, at the battle of Nugeenah, relief of Moradabad, the action on the Dojura 5 May, capture of Bareilly, assault of Shahjehanpore, capture of the Fort of Bunnai, pursuit of the enemy to Goomtee, destruction of the Fort of Nahomdee, destruction of Shahbad 1 June 1858, campaign in Oudhe 1858-59, action at Pusgaon 19 October 1858, battle of Rissoolpore 25 October 1858, capture of Mittowlis 8 November 1858 and the action at Biswab 1 December 1858. The above actions listed on an original handwritten document (fragmentary) bearing official stamps of the Royal Hospital Chelsea.
