D.C.M. London Gazette 1 May 1918: ‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty, although wounded he refused to be evacuated and showed great gallantry in the assault and capture of an enemy post. His courage and endurance were beyond all praise.’

Private George was wounded and awarded the D.C.M. for an action on 2 November 1917 during the Third Battle of Gaza, in Palestine.
