Richard Ellis Burford was born in Woodford, Essex on 2 May 1887. He attested for the Essex Yeomanry in 1908 and served with “C” Squadron Epping and Waltham Abbey Troop. He continued to serve with the yeomanry until he was commissioned in the Essex Regiment on 27 July 1918. 2nd Lieutenant Burford died of wounds on 8 October 1918 whilst on attachment to the 9th Norfolk Regiment. He was buried in the Tincourt New British Cemetery, Somme, France. Sold with 29 sheets of copied service papers and original commemorative scroll mounted on card.
