Arthur Edward Thompson, who had enlisted in 1902, entered the French theatre of war on 22 August 1914. He was discharged on 29 January 1915 due to wounds received; he was thus entitled to the clasp to the 1914 Star. His medals were despatched in 1923 and some / all ? re-issued in 1936. During the Second World War he served in the Essex Home Guard. Sold with copied confirmation of award of ‘Services Rendered Badge’ with original transmittal slip; transmittal slips re. the Defence Medal and a card box lid for the same, giving an address in Billericay.
