John Jennings was born in Rayleigh and enlisted at Warley, Essex. Serving with the 2nd Battalion Essex Regiment, he was wounded soon after reaching the front, in the right foot but making a recovery he was able to rejoin his regiment. He was killed in action, France / Flanders, 13 May 1915. His name is commemorated on the Rayleigh and Benfleet Memorials and the Menin Gate.
