Charles Frederick Wilkin was born in Halstead, Essex and enlisted into the Essex Regiment in 1888, aged 18 years. He served with the regiment in India 1892-97 before being transferred to the Reserve in 1898. Recalled in November 1899, he served in South Africa from 11 November 1899 to 9 June 1900. He was wounded at Driefontein 10 February 1900. Wilkin was discharged in September 1900 as medically unfit for further service. Sold with copied service papers.
