R.H.S. Case No. 18,884. Berrington, a Cadet, aged 16, of the Training Ship Worcester, saved Frank Salter, a Cadet of the same ship, aged 15. It was at 4 p.m. on 28 February 1872, when Cadet Frank Salter fell overboard into the River Thames at Greenhithe, Kent. Berrington jumped overboard, dived and caught hold of Salter when under water and brought him to the surface and supported him. When Salter was brought on board he was unconscious; he was put to bed and given stimulants.

Caradoc Charles Berrington was born on 22 January 1856, second son of Arthur Davies Berrington, of Pant-y-Goitre, Monmouthshire. He was educated at Clifton College 1866-68, and then joined the Training Ship
Worcester. He died in 1884.
