Harold Galwey Warren was born on 20 July 1874, the only son of John Augustus Warren. He was appointed a Second Lieutenant in the Limerick City Artillery, becoming Lieutenant in March 1894, and Captain in September 1896. In 1897 he was seconded from the Limerick City Artillery for service with the Sierra Leone Frontier Police. He arrived at Freetown from Liverpool in August 1897, and was appointed an Assistant Inspector of Frontier Police and a Justice of the Peace of the Colony. In October 1898, Warren was appointed a Captain with the Sierra Leone Battalion of the West African Frontier Force, an Inspector in the Frontier Police, and also a local Captain in the Army. For his services during the troubles in Sierra Leone in 1898-99 he received the medal with clasp.
During 1900, Warren acted as District Commissioner of the Panguma District, and as Inspector-General of the Frontier Police Force. In February 1903, he was appointed a District Commissioner in the Protectorate of Sierra Leone, and was a Presiding Judge at the sitting of the Circuit Court on a number of occasions. He was promoted to Major in the LImerick City Artillery in February 1904, and remained seconded. In 1908, when the Militia in the United Kingdom ceased, Warren was transferred to the Limerick City Royal Field Artillery (Special Reserve), and was granted the honorary rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in November 1909, and shortly afterwards transferred to the Reserve of Officers. In January 1911 he was appointed a First Class District Commissioner, and in February 1913 a Special Commissioner of the Special Commission Court. Lieutenant-Colonel Harold Warren died at Batkanu, Karene District, on 6 February 1919, of Blackwater Fever. He was aged 44 and was unmarried. Sold with full research.
