A Second World War D.S.M. group of seven awarded to Able Seaman Hugh McCormick, R.N., H.M.S. Bicester, for the destruction of U-443 in February 1943

D.S.M. London Gazette 1 June 1943: ‘For bravery and skill in action against enemy submarines while serving in H.M. Ships Bicester, Wheatland and Lamerton, and H.M.N.Z. Ships Kiwi and Moa.’ Five D.S.Ms awarded for this action.

Awarded for the sinking of the U-443 in the Mediterranean near Algiers on 23 February 1943. The submarine was attacked and sunk by depth charges from the British escort destroyers with the loss of all hands.
