Five: Private I. C. Spohr, South African Artillery, late Wit’s Rifles

1939-45 Star; Africa Star; Italy Star; War Medal 1939-45; Africa Service Medal, all officially named (82190 I. C. Spohr), very fine (5) £60-80

Ivan Cecil Spohr, born in 1920, was a painter by trade. Joining the army in 1941 he was posted to Wit’s Rifles and in the following year to Regiment Botha and thence to the 3rd Field Regiment South African Artillery. Whilst serving with the latter unit in North Africa he was posted missing at Tobruk on 20.6.1942 and later confirmed as a prisoner-of-war at Camp 85. He was released, arriving at a transit camp in Italy on 29.10.1943, returning to Egypt on 2.11.1943. Sold with copied service records.
