William James Young was born and enlisted at Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. He was killed in action in France and Flanders on 21 October 1917, whilst serving with the 14th (West of England) Battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment. His name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Zonnebeke, Belgium. A photograph and obituary relating to Private Young appears in the book, Leaving All That Was Dear.
