Pewter Tankard, with glass bottom, height approx. 120mm., diameter at base 100mm., embossed with badge of ‘A” Company Shanghai Volunteer Corps, ‘Shoulder to Shoulder, A. Company, M.H.L.R.’, engraved, ‘Presented to Sgt. R. N. Bryant by the members of “A” Coy. S.V.C. on his departure for active service, June 1941’, slightly buckled, generally good condition £40-50

Bryant was a teacher at Taunton School. In the mid 1930’s he went to Shanghai and taught at the cathedral school there. An active member of the S.V.C., he left Shaghai for active service in 1941. He later won a M.C. in Burma whilst serving with the Staffordshire Regiment. Post-war, he became a senior colonial officer in Nigeria.
