The mounted group of eight miniature dress medals attributed to Colonel W. W. White, Indian Medical Service, Order of the Bath, Military Division, gold and enamel, ring suspension; Order of St. Michael & St. George, silver-gilt and enamel, ring suspension; India General Service 1854-95, 1 clasp, Hazara 1891; India General Service 1895-1902, 4 clasps, Relief of Chitral 1895, Punjab Frontier 1897-8, Samana 1897, Tirah 1897-8; China 1900, 1 clasp, Relief of Pekin; 1914 Star, with clasp; British War and Victory Medals, M.I.D. oakleaf, mounted Court style as worn, good very fine and better (8) £160-200

William Westropp White was born in 1862. Educated at Queen’s College, Cork and at the Royal University, Ireland where he gained the degrees: M.D., M.Ch., M.A.O. in 1887. Joined the Indian Medical Service as Surgeon in 1887, he was promoted Major in 1899 and Lieutenant-Colonel in 1907 and awarded the Brevet rank of Colonel in 1915, retiring in 1921. For his services during the Great War he was mentioned in despatches on 22.6.1915, 19.10.1916, 14.6.1918 and 5.6.1919 and awarded the C.B. in 1916 and C.M.G. in 1919.
