Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, no clasp (W. H. Bunt, Sto., H.M.S. Dwarf) edge bruising and contact marks, otherwise good fine £80-100

William Henry Bunt was born in Devonshire in October 1874 and entered the Royal Navy as a Stoker 2nd Class in April 1894. Appointed Stoker in April 1896, he served aboard H.M.S. Dwarf off South Africa in 1902 and was advanced to Stoker Petty Officer in April 1909. The outbreak of hostilities in August 1914 found Bunt serving aboard the cruiser H.M.S. Roxburgh as a Chief Stoker and, in February 1916, following time ashore at Vivid II, he joined the cruiser Carysfort, in which ship he served until the summer of 1918. Bunt was latterly employed in the Gunner at Holderness but was invalided with heart disease in November 1918.
