Africa General Service 1902-56, 3 clasps, N. Nigeria, N. Nigeria 1903, N. Nigeria 1904 (1162 Pte. Yesufu, N. Nigeria Regt.) good very fine £140-160

Sold with verification for the ‘N. Nigeria’ clasp and probable confirmation for the ‘N. Nigeria 1903’ clasp.

The ‘N. Nigeria 1903’ clasp was awarded to those who participated in the Kano-Sokoto operations of January to March 1903, and / or the Sokoto Burmi operations of April to July of the same year. Both proved to be especially active encounters with the enemy, and led to an impressive tally of Honours and Awards, comprising one V.C. (Lieutenant W. D. Wright, Queen’s Royal West Surrey Regiment, attached Northern Nigeria Regiment), two C.Bs, six D.S.Os and ten D.C.Ms. Among our casualties were an Officer wounded by a sword cut from the Emir’s chief eunuch, and Major Marsh, who died within 20 minutes of being hit above the knee by a poisoned arrow; see Magor for full details.
