I.D.S.M. London Gazette 16 March 1944. The original recommendation for the award of the I.O.M. 2nd Class states:

‘On 15 January 1944, Subedar Karim Khan was ordered to attack Right Knob with his Platoon. The position was strongly held and had twice previously been attacked without success. He planned a surprise attack and succeeded in rushing the enemy post at the top of the hill. The Platoon then came under close range machine-gun fire and further exploitation became impossible owing to casualties. The Subedar decided then to consolidate where he was for the night, which was carried out though harassed continuously by mortar and machine-gun fire. Next morning the enemy put in a determined counter-attack, which was driven off with heavy casualties to the enemy. The Platoon remained on their position, gradually improving it, for 3 days until relieved. During this period they had little to eat or drink and were constantly harassed by the enemy. The success of this operation is attributable almost entirely to the fine leadership, bravery and skill of this outstanding V.C.O.’

Subedar Karim Khan was subsequently awarded the Military Cross London Gazette 4 April 1946 and the Order of British India, 2nd Class, on 12 June 1947.
