Indian Order of Merit, Military Division, 2nd type (1912-39), 1st Class, Reward of Valor, silver, gold and enamel, the reverse officially engraved in four lines ‘1st Class Order of Merit’, complete with silver ribbon buckle, extremely fine and very rare £1200-1500

Only 22 awards of the 1st Class Order of Merit were made between 1912 and 1939. The above example is one of the varieties made in London by J. W. Benson Ltd, of Ludgate Hill, probably for award to Indian troops serving in France and Flanders.
